d2b came about because of the lack of awareness of the Bar Public Access Scheme or Direct Access as it is commonly known. In 2025 the Bar Public Access Scheme celebrates its 21st anniversary yet in 2023, in a survey commissioned by the Bar Council, less than 2/5ths of barristers surveyed replied that they did Public access work and those that did reported that typically it was less than 10% of their practice.

Why is this?

This is primarily driven through a lack of public awareness.
